Former Miss Universe Sushmita Sen is one of the most popular actresses in the bollywood industry. She is the first Indian lady to win the crown of Miss Universe held in Manila, Philippines in 1994 and also won the title of Femina Miss India in the same year. She made her bollywood debut with the film Dastak. Later she has featured in several films like Sirf Tum, Biwi No.1, Aankhen, Main Hoon Na, Samay: When Time Strikes, Zindaggi Rocks and many more. She made Bangali film debut with National Award winning director Srijit Mukherji’s film ‘Nirbaak’.
Sushmita Sen was born on 19 November 1975 in Hyderabad into a Bengali family. She has completed schooling from the Saint Ann’s High School, Secunderabad. Her first public appearance was at the Air Force Club Contest at the age of 15. During her younger age, she was regarded as a tomboy and spent most of her time with boys. She took everyone by surprise when she was crowned Miss India. She is known for her love to pen down beautiful poems.

Sushmita is the daughter of Shubeer Sen, who was a former Wing Commander of the Indian Air Force and Subhra Sen who was a jewellery designer and also the owner of a Dubai-based store. Her maternal grandfather was a poet. She has one brother named Rajeev sen and a sister named Neelam, who is married to Nauman Mallick.
Sushmita has been linked up with several celebrities, but she is not dating anyone. The actress said that, she has no plans of getting married.
The most glamorous and stylish lady Sushmita Sen has adopted a baby girl named Renee in the year 2000. Since she was a 25 year old single woman then, she was not permitted to take the guardianship of the child.
However, later on the High Court repressed the appeal and Sushmita obtained gain of cause. She adopted a 3 month old girl on 13 June, 2010 and she named her Alisah. She is also a renowned philanthropist.
In Bengali film Nirbaak
Nirbaak (Speechless) is an Indian Bengali Drama film directed by Srijit Mukherji, starring Sushmita Sen, Jisshu Sengupta, Ritwick Chakraborty and Anjan Dutta. This is the first bengali film for Sushmita Sen. The film is a hyperlink narrative comprising of four love stories connected by a single woman (played by Sushmita Sen). Every love story comprises of one entity which is silent thus Nirbaak.
In 1994, Sushmita Sen has decided to participate in Miss India beauty pageant contest and has won the title of ‘Femina Miss India’. She has defeated Aishwariya Rai in the race for the title. Same year, she had represented India at The Miss Universe Pageant hosted at Manila in Philippines and she won it as well. She has owned a production company named Tantra Entertainment, which awarded the India franchise to select participants by the Miss Universe organisation.
Sushmita has statred her career in bollywood with the film Dastak in 1996. Her role in Sirf Tum, gave her chance to make a mark in Indian films. Later her movie Main Hoon Na, went on to higest grossing at the box-office. She was seen in a Bengali film Nirbaak.
