Shamita Shetty is an Indian model turned actress who is famous in Bollywood. She is also an interior designer and is the younger sister of Bollywood beauty Shilpa Shetty Kundra. Shamita has made her bollywood debut with 2000 super hit film Mohabbatein. She was also seen in some Telugu and Tamil films. She was last seen shaking her legs in Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 8 which aired on Colors. Shamita Shetty was born on 2 February 1979 in Mangalore, Karnataka, India. She has completed her degree in Commerce from Sydenham College in Mumbai and has also completed a diploma course in Fashion Designing from SNDT. Shetty was born and brought up in a traditional family which hails from the Bunt community. She is the younger daughter of late Surendra and Sunanda Shetty, who are the manufacturers of tamper-proof caps for the pharmaceutical industry. Her elder sister Shilpa Shetty is a popular bollywood actress and Shetty sisters shares a great bond with each other.
Shamita Shetty has made her debut in bollywood with the Yash Raj Films Mohabbatein, directed by Aditya Chopra. The movie was a blockbuster hit in which she played the role of Ishika which earned her IIFA Award for Star Debut of the Year – Female. Later, she was mostly seen in item numbers like “Sharara Sharara” in Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai (2001) and “Chori Pe Chori” in Saathiya (2002). She was seen playing the lead role in the movie Zeher opposite Emraan Hashmi which was her first solo hit. She was seen alongwith her actress sister Shilpa Shetty in the movie Fareb. She was also seen in the popular reality show Bigg Boss Season 3 but opted out of the show for her sister Shilpa’s wedding. On 14 June 2011, Shamita announced her retirement from acting to start a career in interior designing.
